The Assistant Dispatcher position is an integral part of the operations department at Axis Crane which is responsible for ensuring efficient scheduling of cranes, trucks, operators, support crews and all other supporting resources. The Assistant Dispatcher will be accountable to manage a communication network to relay dispatches, messages, and information to and from work crews, supervisors, and operators. The role includes providing support in a fast paced crane rental/construction company and is responsible for completing operational and data management tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Specific duties include:
*Dispatch cranes, trucks, support equipment and personnel to meet customer/job needs.
*Plan, manage, and oversee all scheduled and unscheduled movements of equipment and personnel.
*Communicate job information including any changes to all appropriate parties in a timely manner.
*Schedule assignments and coordinates activities for trucks, trailers, cranes, operators, and crew.
*Ensure all appropriate equipment is recorded on dispatch ticket, scheduled and delivered to job site.
*Effectively utilize labor and equipment in the daily operation to comply with company efficiency goals.
*Prepare, update and maintain daily dispatch reports and schedules.
*Produce required reports for tax and other outside agencies as required.
*Clearly communicate loading and delivery requirements.
*Maintain current and accurate information in dispatch computer system.
*Coordinate last minute job/schedule changes.
*Monitor crew activities with regard to regulations, policies and procedural guidelines are followed (e.g. Hours-of-service, compliance with permit restrictions).
*Receive maintenance requests from crews, review and forward service requests to maintenance manager.
*Obtain, process and transmit information, instructions and registrations. Secures required permits for cranes, trucks and personnel.
*Use specialized software to create appropriate maps and charts to follow all permit laws.
*Generates street closures and traffic control plans, obtain permits and communicate with crews.
*Reviews and approves crew logs, confirm activities with GPS and other systems available.
*File all paperwork in a timely manner.
*Promotes and actively enforces Axis Crane’s safety program. This is expected of ALL employees.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
*Intermediate to advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite and internet.
*Previous experience in crane, transportation or heavy equipment industry preferred.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
*Aptitude and strong desire to learn.
*An ability to multi-task, deal with change and exhibit flexibility in job duties.
*Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, assume responsibility and prioritize effectively.
*Strong organization, time management and problem solving skills.
*Able to work will under pressure.
*Must be detail oriented.
*Conduct all business in a professional, respectful manner.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
*Work location is primarily in an office environment, though some work in the equipment yard and shop is required.
*Normal work days with some overtime, weekends and holiday work required based on operational need.
*Must be flexible and adaptable to perform work as needed when circumstances dictate (i.e. emergencies, change in personnel, change in workload, rush jobs, etc.)
*Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
*Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
*Participates in after hour on-call rotation for dispatch (24-hour on call every other week).
