Crane and Diesel Mechanic

With one of the largest fleets in the Pacific Northwest, Axis Crane specializes in crane rental, pile driving, and heavy haul freight operations. We are constantly upgrading and expanding our fleet with the newest, safest, and most innovative equipment available on the market.  The crane/diesel mechanic will perform servicing, repairs and maintenance of cranes, trucks and specialty equipment to meet required service levels and quality standards in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, booms, electrical systems (including troubleshooting onboard computer systems), hydraulic systems (booms, outriggers, pumps, valve banks), brakes and other basic components.
  • Perform servicing and repairs on cranes within the workshop, in the yard and on jobsites as required.
  • Properly maintain materials, tools and equipment.
  • Assists with maintaining and monitoring the service schedule for all fleet equipment.
  • Maintaining daily records of shop, labor and materials used as well as properly documenting repairs and inspections performed on each piece of equipment.
  • Accurately maintain service records for each crane detailing all faults, repairs, service dates etc.
  • Assists with the planning and procurement of materials and parts as required.
  • Provide technical advice to other mechanics in the shop ensure shortest possible downtime for vehicles.
  • Follow Axis Crane Safety Program requirements & safe working practices at all times and wear required personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety boots, gloves, safety glasses, etc).
  • Perform other duties that management may reasonably request.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in crane and diesel maintenance.
  • Must have ASE or similar certifications.
  • Will be working on Manitowac, Grove, Demag, Link Belt and Liebherr cranes.
  • Will be working on Mack, Kenworth, Peterbilt, & other trucks.
  • Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics in successfully troubleshooting problems on those systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical boards and crane computer systems.
  • Must have the ability to work on hydraulic and conventional cranes, forklifts, tractor trailers and miscellaneous specialty equipment.
  • CDL and experience in crane operations is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.

Lead Wind Turbine Technician
This position leads one or more teams of wind turbine technicians to perform all aspects of support for Axis Crane’s wind turbine maintenance team.
Responsibilities

  • Perform all mechanical and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts to correct malfunctions in various wind turbine generators.
  • Follow basic structured problem-solving process to complete troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks to include the use of diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke meter, hydraulic pressure gauge, etc.).
  • Independently initiate and perform most work tasks, as well as follow defined instructions and maintenance schedules (including annual/semi-annual), executing plans as directed.
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Perform all mechanical and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts.
  • Follow all quality control checks, testing and other processes to safely return equipment to service.
  • Direct, assist and train field crews with trouble-shooting and repairs.
  • Assist/direct high voltage contractors as needed.

Safety and DOT Compliance Manager

The Safety and DOT Compliance Manager is responsible for managing the safety and training programs of Axis Crane as well as ensuring compliance with DOT requirements. The position will interact with all levels of the company, customers and outside agencies. Working closely with operations, management and field personnel, the Safety and DOT Compliance Manager will coordinate safety initiatives and related programs company-wide.  The overarching goal is to continuously improve safety programs, management and industry compliance with continued improvement and measurable outcomes.  This position reports to the Axis Crane Safety Director.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Implement and support strategic safety initiatives to achieve corporate safety objectives.
  • Support Safety Director and General Manager in the development and implementation of strategic safety initiatives, policies, programs and practices that ensure the company’s commitment to safety and health is embraced by all employees of the organization and is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws.
  • Responsible for tracking compliance with safety training, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, State, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting serious safety problems.
  • Analyze safety processes throughout the company; proactively seeks areas of opportunity for improvement; recommends and/or implements changes to work flow, equipment or other process elements.
  • Provide support to Safety Director and General Manager when working with regulatory and government agencies.
  • File and or post reports as required by external legal and convening agencies such as OSHA 300/300A Logs, Reports, etc.
  • Ensure all required Federal and State reports are filed on or before deadline.
  • Respond to safety incidents and employee emergencies as required.
  • Conduct safety audits/inspections, accident and personal injury investigations including report generation and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct New Employee Orientation and Training.
  • Produce and distribute Safety Communications and Safety Alerts.
  • Coordinate with the all departments at Axis Crane to assure programs and records are maintained for compliance under OSHA, DOT and other regulatory agency standards.
  • Perform periodic job-site safety inspections.
  • Evaluate potential hazards or damage which could result from misuse of equipment or products to improve safety. Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Monitor ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements. Communicate updates/changes to Axis Management team.
  • Assist with monthly safety meetings as requested. May be required to represent Safety Director at safety meetings.

DOT Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with Hours of Service program, Driver Qualification files, Motor Vehicle Report process, DOT Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Testing Program, and reporting systems. Ensures Driver Qualification files are complete and updated as required by FMCSA rules and regulations and Driver Applications contain required information.
  • Perform DOT support duties by checking driver’s logs, Hours of Service and other reports as requested.
  • Coordinate all required Drug and Alcohol screenings.

  • Work location is primarily in an office environment, though some work the equipment yard, shop and travel to various job sites will be required.
  • Normal workdays with some overtime, weekends and holiday work required based on operational need. Some overnight stays out of town may be required.

Wind Turbine Technician

Wind Turbine Technician
Responsibilities
Wind Turbine Technicians perform a majority of their maintenance work in the nacelle, where the drive train components and sensitive electronics are housed. Nacelles are built very compactly, and technicians must be able to work in confined spaces, inside the nacelles, hubs and rotors.  Wind turbine technicians regularly clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines
  • Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions
  • Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
  • Grease/torque wind turbines.
  • Use handheld power tools and electrical measuring instruments to troubleshoot any electrical faults in the control cabinets, generator, and other onboard electrical and electronic systems.
  • Perform status checks including clearing error codes on turbines and repairing the problems.
  • Complete work orders, time cards and any other required paperwork for the specific project/task on a daily basis.

The Contract Administrator to assists in the support of Axis Crane’s Construction Services and Crane Rental operations.  The Contract Administrator will work closely with the general manager, project managers, finance department and operations management in coordinating construction accounting and administration.  The ideal candidate must be able to express a professional and friendly demeanor and be a proactive, self-starter who possesses exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to effectively explain complex solutions.  The ability to exercise good judgment, prioritize tasks in order to operate effectively in a fast paced environment, exhibit a high degree of flexibility, and to build strong relationships with other departments, contractors, and vendors is critical in order to accomplish tasks and achieve goals.

Safety and DOT Compliance Manager

The Safety and DOT Compliance Manager is responsible for managing the safety and training programs of Axis Crane as well as ensuring compliance with DOT requirements. The position will interact with all levels of the company, customers and outside agencies. Working closely with operations, management and field personnel, the Safety and DOT Compliance Manager will coordinate safety initiatives and related programs company-wide.  The overarching goal is to continuously improve safety programs, management and industry compliance with continued improvement and measurable outcomes.  This position reports to the Axis Crane Safety Director.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Implement and support strategic safety initiatives to achieve corporate safety objectives.
  • Support Safety Director and General Manager in the development and implementation of strategic safety initiatives, policies, programs and practices that ensure the company’s commitment to safety and health is embraced by all employees of the organization and is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws.
  • Responsible for tracking compliance with safety training, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, State, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting serious safety problems.
  • Analyze safety processes throughout the company; proactively seeks areas of opportunity for improvement; recommends and/or implements changes to work flow, equipment or other process elements.
  • Provide support to Safety Director and General Manager when working with regulatory and government agencies.
  • File and or post reports as required by external legal and convening agencies such as OSHA 300/300A Logs, Reports, etc.
  • Ensure all required Federal and State reports are filed on or before deadline.
  • Respond to safety incidents and employee emergencies as required.
  • Conduct safety audits/inspections, accident and personal injury investigations including report generation and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct New Employee Orientation and Training.
  • Produce and distribute Safety Communications and Safety Alerts.
  • Coordinate with the all departments at Axis Crane to assure programs and records are maintained for compliance under OSHA, DOT and other regulatory agency standards.
  • Perform periodic job-site safety inspections.
  • Evaluate potential hazards or damage which could result from misuse of equipment or products to improve safety. Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Monitor ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements. Communicate updates/changes to Axis Management team.
  • Assist with monthly safety meetings as requested. May be required to represent Safety Director at safety meetings.

DOT Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with Hours of Service program, Driver Qualification files, Motor Vehicle Report process, DOT Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Testing Program, and reporting systems. Ensures Driver Qualification files are complete and updated as required by FMCSA rules and regulations and Driver Applications contain required information.
  • Perform DOT support duties by checking driver’s logs, Hours of Service and other reports as requested.
  • Coordinate all required Drug and Alcohol screenings.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work location is primarily in an office environment, though some work the equipment yard, shop and travel to various job sites will be required.
  • Normal workdays with some overtime, weekends and holiday work required based on operational need. Some overnight stays out of town may be required.

Wind Turbine Technician

Responsibilities
Wind Turbine Technicians perform a majority of their maintenance work in the nacelle, where the drive train components and sensitive electronics are housed. Nacelles are built very compactly, and technicians must be able to work in confined spaces, inside the nacelles, hubs and rotors.  Wind turbine technicians regularly clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines
  • Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions
  • Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
  • Grease/torque wind turbines.
  • Use handheld power tools and electrical measuring instruments to troubleshoot any electrical faults in the control cabinets, generator, and other onboard electrical and electronic systems.
  • Perform status checks including clearing error codes on turbines and repairing the problems.
  • Complete work orders, time cards and any other required paperwork for the specific project/task on a daily basis.
